World Heritage Status to Charaideo Moidams

Charaideo Moidam in Assam has been officially included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

  • The inscription was announced during the 46th Session of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) held in July 2024 in Delhi.
  • The site was recommended under the Cultural Property category by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
  • This is the first site from North East India to receive UNESCO World Heritage status in the Cultural category.
  • With this inclusion, India now has 43 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in total.
  • Assam now has 3 sites:
    • Charaideo Moidam (Cultural)
    • Kaziranga National Park (Natural)
    • Manas National Park (Natural)
