Election Process and Constitutional Mandate
- Article 63 mandates the office of the Vice-President, who serves as the ex-officio Chairman of Rajya Sabha.
- The election is conducted via proportional representation using a single transferable vote through a secret ballot system.
- The Electoral College comprises all elected and nominated members from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
- State Legislative Assemblies have no role in electing the Vice-President, distinguishing it from the Presidential election process.
