Air Pollution in India – CREA REPORT

  • In March 2026, a recent analysis by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), based on Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, revealed severe air pollution levels across Indian cities during winter 2025–26.

Key Findings

  • 204 out of 238 cities exceeded the national PM2.5 standard (40 µg/m³) during winter (Oct 2025–Feb 2026).
  • Most polluted cities:
    • Ghaziabad – 172 µg/m³
    • Noida – 166 µg/m³
    • Delhi – 163 µg/m³
  • Other highly polluted cities include Greater Noida, Bahadurgarh, Dharuhera, Gurugram, Bhiwadi, Charkhi Dadri, and Baghpat.
  • Regional trend: Uttar Pradesh and Haryana accounted for four cities each in the top 10 polluted ....
