BharatGen: India’s First AI Multimodal LLM
On June 2, 2025, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh launched “BharatGen LLM” at the BharatGen Summit 2025.
- BharatGen is India’s first indigenously developed and government-funded Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), designed to operate in 22 Indian languages.
- Unlike traditional unimodal models (like early versions of ChatGPT), multimodal LLMs are trained on diverse data formats—text, images, audio, and video—allowing them to interpret and generate responses across multiple media types with greater contextual understanding.
