BharatNet Phase III – PPP Model for Last-Mile Connectivity
- In January 2026, State-owned service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) awarded two additional contracts under the third phase of the BharatNet programme, as India accelerates efforts to complete the long-running village connectivity initiative.
- BharatNet Phase III aims to provide high-speed broadband to all remaining 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats.
- The project utilizes a Public-Private Partnership model to ensure efficient operation and maintenance of rural networks.
- A three-tier architecture comprising national, state, and district levels facilitates end-to-end middle-mile connectivity across India.
- Private partners are incentivized through viability gap funding to provide high-quality last-mile connectivity to rural households.
