Cabinet Approves Extension of Jal Jeevan Mission
On 10th March 2026, the Union Cabinet approved extension of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) until December 2028, transitioning the flagship programme into "JJM 2.0" with an enhanced outlay and a focus on structural reforms.
About the JJM 2.0
- Shift to Utility Model: The programme will transition from an infrastructure-driven approach to a citizen-centric utility model ensuring sustainable piped potable water supply in rural areas.
- Sujalam Bharat Digital Framework: A national digital system will assign each village a unique “Sujal Gaon/Service Area ID” and digitally map the entire drinking water supply chain from source to household tap.
