Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) & Energy Initiatives (2025–26)
India has expanded its Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) capacity under the SATAT initiative, as highlighted by Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in January 2026, along with new steps to boost domestic energy production.
Key Highlights on CBG and SATAT
- India has established 132 CBG plants with a total production capacity of 920 tonnes per day, with additional capacity under development.
- The Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) scheme was launched in 2018 to promote production of CBG from agricultural and organic waste.
- The initiative aims to convert waste into clean fuel, reduce emissions, and provide additional income to farmers. ....
