Critical Mineral Recycling Incentive Scheme

  • In September 2025, the Union Cabinet cleared a Rs. 1,500 crore (US$ 170.4 million) Critical Mineral Recycling Incentive Scheme under the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) to promote recycling of e-waste and battery waste for the extraction of critical minerals.
  • The scheme promotes a circular economy for critical minerals including Lithium, Cobalt, Nickel, and Copper.
  • It targets material recovery from end-of-life electric vehicle batteries and discarded consumer electronics for strategic reuse.
  • Recycling units receive financial incentives based on the purity and volume of the recovered critical minerals.
  • This framework aims to reduce import reliance for minerals vital to the national green energy transition.
