IMAP (Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe)
In February 2026, NASA’s IMAP (Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe) began its two-year primary science mission to explore and map the boundaries of our heliosphere - the protective bubble created by the solar wind that encapsulates our solar system.
- IMAP was launched on 24 September 2025.
- It is a NASA heliophysics mission designed to study the heliosphere, the protective bubble created by the solar wind around the Solar System.
- Its main objective is to map the heliosphere boundary and understand how the solar wind interacts with the local interstellar medium.
