- In December 2025, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) commenced operations at India’s first commercial-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) plant in Panipat, Haryana.
- India's first commercial-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel plant utilizes used cooking oil and agricultural waste feedstocks.
- Sustainable Aviation Fuel is chemically similar to conventional jet fuel but reduces lifecycle carbon emissions.
- The facility aligns with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) standards.
- The plant utilizes Alcohol-to-Jet technology to convert bio-ethanol and biomass into high-quality aviation turbine fuel.
Policy Mandates and Decarbonization
- Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has mandated a one percent SAF blending target by 2027.
