India’s 58th Tiger Reserve
The Government of India, through the National Tiger Conservation Authority, declared Madhav National Park as the country’s 58th Tiger Reserve on 9 March 2025.
- This move is aimed at strengthening tiger conservation efforts and expanding the network of protected areas under Project Tiger.
Tiger Reintroduction Efforts
- Under the tiger reintroduction project, three tigers, including two females, were translocated to Madhav National Park in 2023.
- This initiative aims to restore the historical tiger population in the region and improve ecological balance.
- The reintroduction programme follows scientific guidelines and protocols to ensure habitat suitability and long-term sustainability of the tiger population.
