Indo-Pacific Defence Industrial Partnership (PIPIR)

On 20th March 2026, the U.S.-led Partnership for Indo-Pacific Industrial Resilience (PIPIR) announced new collaborative projects in missile systems, drones, and ammunition production, while also reviewing global defence supply chain gaps at its second annual plenary meeting.

Highlights of the Meeting

  • Thailand and the United Kingdom joined, expanding membership to 16 countries.
  • Missile Motor Production:
    • Japan will lead a programme to manufacture solid rocket motors.
    • Reduces dependence on U.S.-based production for critical components.
  • Drone Cooperation:
    • Development of common standards for military drones.
    • Focus on shared supply chains for batteries and small motors.
    • Exploration of joint drone production across multiple uses.
  • Ammunition Manufacturing:
    • Proposal to establish a 30mm ammunition facility ....
