National Designated Authority (NDA) for Carbon Markets
- In August 2025, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) notified the constitution of the National Designated Authority (NDA) for the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
- The NDA serves as the apex body for carbon market governance in India, replacing earlier temporary frameworks to provide a permanent, legally-backed institutional structure under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
- Its primary purpose is to regulate and authorize the participation of Indian entities in international and domestic carbon markets, ensuring that carbon trading aligns with India's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
