Stealth Frigate Capability Enhancement – INS Tamal
In July 2025, INS Tamal was commissioned at Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia.
- INS Tamal is the eighth multi-role stealth frigate under Project 1135.6 and the second follow-on Tushil-class vessel.
- It is the last foreign-built warship of the Indian Navy, marking a milestone in India’s self-reliance journey.
- The ship was originally designated for Russia under the name Admiral Istomin before being inducted by India.
- INS Tamal is designed for blue-water operations across air, surface, sub-surface, and electromagnetic warfare domains.
- The frigate incorporates stealth features to reduce radar signature and enhance survivability in hostile environments.
