UNESCO: 7 New Natural Heritage Sites (Tentative List)
In September 2025, the Government of India announced that seven new natural sites have been successfully added to UNESCO’s Tentative List of World Heritage Sites.
- This inclusion, spearheaded by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), increases India's count on the Tentative List to 69 properties (comprising 49 cultural, 17 natural, and 3 mixed heritage properties), reflecting a strategic push to showcase India's geological and biological diversity.
- Under the UNESCO framework, a site must be on the Tentative List for at least one year before it can be considered for formal nomination to the World Heritage List.
