New Definitions for ‘Literacy’ and ‘Full Literacy’
On 26th August, 2024, the Ministry of Education (MoE) defined ‘literacy,’ and ‘full literacy,’ in the light of the renewed push for adult literacy under the New India Literacy Programme (also known as ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society).
Purpose
- NEP: This initiative aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP).
- SDG 4.6: This also supports the SDG 4.6 which is about ensuring that all youth and a substantial proportion of adults, both men and women achieve literacy and numeracy by 2030.
New Definitions given by Ministry of Education
- Literacy: Literacy will now be defined as, ....
