16th Finance Commission & Fiscal Federalism
The 16th Finance Commission (FC-XVI), constituted under Article 280 of the Constitution, is India’s apex body for recommending the distribution of tax revenues between the Centre and states. As fiscal dynamics and the demands of cooperative and competitive federalism evolve, the 16th FC is expected to reset the contours of fiscal federalism for the five years commencing April 1, 2026.
