IUCAA Discovers X-ray Binary System in Magellanic Bridge
Recently, an IUCAA-led team has discovered the first known X-ray binary system in the Magellanic Bridge, using observations from the space-based eROSITA X-ray telescope.
- The system contains a white dwarf that is drawing gas from a much larger giant star, producing strong X-ray emission.
- The Magellanic Bridge is a stream of stars and gas connecting the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, formed through their gravitational interaction.
