US Announces Withdrawal from UNESCO
On 22nd July 2025, the US Administration announced its decision to once again withdraw the United States from UNESCO—the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
- The move aligns with previous withdrawals from other international bodies and agreements, including the World Health Organization, the UN Human Rights Council, and the Paris climate accord.
Why the US is leaving UNESCO?
- Perceived Ideological Bias: The US Administration cited UNESCO’s support for “divisive social and cultural causes” and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which it labelled a “globalist, ideological agenda.”
