India remains actively engaged in the World Trade Organisation (WTO), advocating for key issues including agriculture—specifically public stockholding policies under TRIPS & SPS norms—fisheries subsidies negotiations, intellectual property rights, and adequate special and differential treatment for developing countries, especially for protecting artisanal fishers and ensuring food security.

Recent Developments

  • The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), under the WTO Chairs Programme (WCP), organized a regional conference of Asian and African chairholders on 27–28 September 2024, themed “Fostering Resilient and Responsible Trade for Changing Global Order.
  • Recently, 1st January 2025 marked the 30th anniversary of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
