AI Roadmap for Inclusive Societal Development
On 8th October 2025, NITI Aayog released a pioneering study, AI for Inclusive Societal Development, a first-of-its-kind effort to systematically explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and frontier technologies can be harnessed to transform the lives and livelihoods of India’s million informal workers.

Massive Workforce Base
- Nearly 490 million Indians, accounting for about 90 percent of the total workforce, are engaged in informal work across sectors such as agriculture, construction, and street vending.
- This segment contributes roughly 50 percent to India’s GDP.
