National Blood Transfusion Bill, 2025
On 12th December 2025, the Union Government introduced the National Blood Transfusion Bill, 2025, in the Parliament.
- It aims to regulate aspects like the collection and processing of blood components, prevention of transfusion-transmitted conditions and imposition of penalties for unsafe or non-compliant practices.
Need for the Bill
- Fragmented System: Blood transfusion services are currently delivered through a patchwork of public and private blood banks operating under inconsistent standards and guidelines.
- Uneven Performance: While a few states have developed efficient networks with strong traceability and inventory management, many others struggle with chronic shortages, expired blood stocks, and weak oversight.
