Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Act, 2025
On 20th December 2025, the President of India gave assent top the Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Bill, 2025.
- It seeks to amend the Insurance Act, 1938, the Life Insurance Corporation Act, 1956, and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority Act, 1999.
Need for the New Insurance Act
Low Insurance Penetration
- Insurance penetration in India is around 4% of GDP, significantly lower than the global average of about 7%.
Capital and Investment Deficit
- The insurance sector requires substantial long-term capital to support growth and stability.
- Restrictions on foreign investment have limited capital inflows and constrained expansion.
