IUCN Rates Khangchendzonga National Park as “Good”
Recently, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) rated Khangchendzonga National Park as “good” in its global assessment of natural World Heritage sites, making it the only Indian site with a favourable rating while others face serious concerns.
About Khangchendzonga National Park
- UNESCO Status: Khangchendzonga National Park is India’s first “mixed” UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognised in 2016 for both its ecological and cultural value.
- Geographical Extent: The park covers 1,784 sq km, ranging from lush subtropical forests to the summit of Mount Khangchendzonga at 8,586 metres, the world’s third-highest peak.
