IndiaAI Mission

In March 2024, the Government of India approved the IndiaAI Mission with a budget outlay of Rs. 10,372 crore for five years. Its objective is to develop GPU-based AI computing infrastructure in India. This will involve the purchase and deployment of over 10,000 GPUs, providing high-level resources to startups, researchers, academicians, and industries.

Key Components and Goals of the Mission

GPU Infrastructure

  • Initial purchase of 300-500 GPUs, with a target to reach over 10,000 GPUs.
  • Companies like Jio Platforms, Tata Communications, Yotta Data Services are participating.

AI Innovation Centres

  • Development of indigenous Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) and domain-specific AI models.
