INS Vikrant
INS Vikrant is India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, designed and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) for the Indian Navy.
Commissioning and Operational Status
- On September 2, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned INS Vikrant into the Indian Navy at Cochin. It was built over 13 years at a cost of around Rs. 20,000 crore.
- In December 2024, INS Vikrant achieved Full Operational Capability after completing all trials and was inducted into the Western Fleet under the Western Naval Command.
- In September 2024, INS Vikrant participated in twin-carrier operations (with INS Vikramaditya), involving multi-domain exercises and fighter operations.
