Pralay Missile
It is India’s indigenous short-range ballistic missile (SRBM), developed by DRDO for the Indian Army and Air Force.
Features of the Pralay Missile
Design and Technology
- Type: Quasi-ballistic, surface-to-surface SRBM.
- Developer: DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad.
- Propulsion: Solid-fuel rocket motor using composite propellant developed by HEMRL, Pune.
- Range: 150–500 km (depending on payload).
- Payload: 350–1,000 kg (HE, pre-fragmented, or runway denial submunitions).
Capabilities
- Quasi-ballistic trajectory: Can alter flight path mid-air, evading ABM systems.
- Terminal Maneuvers: Maneuverable Re-entry Vehicle (MaRV) and jet vane system make interception difficult.
- Reaction Time: 1 minute from mission command to launch, 10 minutes from readiness.
