Xenes 2D Materials: Applications of Borophene & Phosphorene
Following the success of graphene, scientists began to explore other 2D materials that could be useful in various fields with specific properties. Among these, Borophene and Phosphorene are prominent. These are 2D materials with unique mechanical, electrical, and chemical properties, which can be used in next-generation electronic devices, energy storage, supercapacitors, hydrogen storage, etc.
Synthesis
- Xenes: 2D materials like borophene and phosphorene are called "Xenes". These are monolayer (one-atom thick) nanostructures, whose layers are similar to graphene but are made of different elements (like boron, phosphorus).
- Ultrasonic Exfoliation: Techniques like ultrasonic exfoliation are used to prepare these 2D materials, separating single ....
