India to Host International Big Cat Alliance Headquarters
On 17th April 2025, the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) formalized India as the headquarters and secretariat of the alliance, more than two months after the organization became a treaty-based global entity.
- The agreement includes provisions for the operational setup, including infrastructure, personnel immunities, and financial support.
Focus of the IBCA
- Launched by India to promote global conservation of seven big cats: tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, puma, jaguar and cheetah.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the IBCA in April 2023 during Project Tiger’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
