SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme

  • The Indian government has announced that Pakistan nationals will not be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) after terrorist attack in Pahalgam (J&K).
  • SVES was launched in 1992.
  • The scheme originated from the Fourth SAARC Summit held in Islamabad in December 1988.
  • It aims to promote people-to-people contact and enhance regional cooperation among SAARC members.
