Similipal Declared Odisha’s Second National Park
- Recently, the Odisha government has officially declared the Similipal Tiger Reserve as the 107th national park of India, covering an area of 845.70 square kilometres.
- The reserve is famous worldwide for its wild pseudo-melanistic tigers, whose unique black-and-yellow striped coats are a result of higher-than-normal melanin levels.
- With national park status, the notified 845.70 sq/km area will now be rights-free, ensuring no human activities are allowed, in contrast to the more lenient rules of a wildlife sanctuary.
