Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS)

The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) has recently released 45 lakh to Red Sanders farmers in Andhra Pradesh under its Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) mechanism, providing a boost to sustainable livelihoods and biodiversity conservation.

  • Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) is a mechanism mandated under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, which ensures that benefits arising from the commercial use of biological resources are fairly and equitably shared with local communities and cultivators who conserve and sustainably use them.
