US Exits Paris Climate Pact

On 27th January 2026, the United States officially exited the Paris Agreement, marking the second withdrawal under Donald Trump, a year after he signed the executive order announcing the decision.

  • President Trump termed the agreement “unfair and one-sided”, arguing that it harms US industries while allowing major emitters like China to continue polluting.
  • The Paris Agreement, signed by 196 countries in 2015, aims to limit global warming to below 1.5°C or well under 2°C, beyond which scientists warn of irreversible climate tipping points.
