World’s Oceans Record Highest Heat Content in 2025
According to a new international study, titled “Ocean Heat Content Sets Another Record in 2025”, the world’s oceans absorbed more heat in 2025 than in any year on record.
- Scientists warn that the trend highlights the accelerating pace of global warming and its growing impact on weather and sea levels.
Record Ocean Heat Uptake
- In 2025, the ocean absorbed an extra 23 zettajoules of heat energy.
- 1 zettajoule = 10²¹ joules.
- This amount of energy is equivalent to around 37 years of global energy consumption at 2023 levels.
