BNHS-NMCG Project to Protect Indian Skimmer

Recently, the Bombay Natural History Society launched a new conservation project under the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) at Dehradun to protect the endangered Indian Skimmer in the Ganga Basin.

  • The main objective is to protect river sandbars, which are critical nesting habitats for the Indian Skimmer and other riverine bird species.
  • These habitats face serious threats from sand mining, altered river flows and human disturbance, leading to sharp declines in bird populations.
