IRENA Assembly Concludes with Push for Global Clean Energy Transition

On 12th January 2026, the 16th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) concluded after three days of deliberations, with record participation.

  • Member countries adopted IRENA’s 2026-27 work programme and budget, endorsed its medium-term strategy, and reaffirmed support for the agency, which now has 171 member countries.
  • India played a prominent role, with Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy highlighting India’s integration of renewable energy with agriculture and food systems.
  • India reaffirmed its commitment to global cooperation, emphasising renewables as a unified solution for energy access, climate action and rural livelihoods.
