Skills for the Future: Transforming India’s Workforce Landscape

In June 2025, the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship unveiled a report titled “Skills for the Future: Transforming India’s Workforce Landscape”.

  • The report is a data-oriented comprehensive analysis of India's skills landscape against the backdrop of the emerging knowledge-driven global economy. It emphasizes the need for a demand-driven, market-aligned and outcome-oriented approach to skilling.

Key Findings of the Report

  • Nearly 88% of India's workforce was engaged in low-competency occupations in 2023-24.
  • Over 50% of graduates occupy roles that require much lower skill levels.
    • Only 8.25% of graduates are in roles that align with their qualifications.
