India’s Bioeconomy: A Catalyst for Sustainable and Equitable Development

On 21st July 2025, the Government’s flagship BioE3 Policy—Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment—took centre stage during a high-level joint review meeting of all science ministries, chaired by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology.

  • Dr. Singh described the initiative as “a national mission to accelerate green growth and scale up India’s bioeconomy—transforming innovation into livelihoods and sustainability into a pillar of national progress.”

What does the term Bioeconomy mean?

Bioeconomy is the use of renewable biological resources to produce food, energy and industrial goods, which supports sustainability and economic growth.
