Recently, the Supreme Court released the Draft Regulations for the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Courts, 2026, while AI-enabled tools are being progressively deployed under the e-Courts Phase III Mission. As India seeks to address mounting case pendency and improve judicial efficiency, AI has emerged as an important enabler of judicial reforms.

- Case management and administrative functions.
- Translation and transcription of court proceedings.
- Accessibility services for litigants.
Prohibited Uses
- AI cannot independently decide judicial outcomes.
- No AI-based risk scoring for bail or sentencing.
- AI cannot determine witness credibility.
