NISAR: A New Era in Earth Observation
On 30th July 2025, India launched the world’s most advanced Earth-observing satellite — NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Tirupati district (Andhra Pradesh).
NISAR Objective
- NISAR is the first of its kind mission, jointly developed by ISRO and NASA.
- It is the first satellite to use dual-band SAR (L-band and S-band), offering unmatched detail across terrains and weather conditions.
- NISAR mission’s primary objectives are to study land & ice deformation, land ecosystems, and oceanic regions in areas of common interest to the US and Indian science communities.
