As per All India Tiger Estimation 2022:
- Minimum: 3,167 tigers
- Average Estimate: 3,682 tigers
- Upper Limit: 3,925 tigers
- Annual Growth Rate: 6.1%
- India Holds: Over 70% of the world’s wild tiger population
Number of Tiger Reserves
- 1973 (Project Tiger launch): 9 tiger reserves
- 2023: 54 tiger reserves (after Veerangana Durgavati Reserve was added)
- 2025: 58 tiger reserves
- Total Area under Tiger Reserves: Over 78,000 sq. km
- Percentage of India’s Geographical Area: 2.30%
Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CA|TS) Accreditation
- Newly accredited reserves (2023): Kali, Melghat, Navegaon-Nagzira, Pilibhit, Periyar
- Total CA|TS-accredited tiger reserves in India: 23
