As per All India Tiger Estimation 2022:

  • Minimum: 3,167 tigers
  • Average Estimate: 3,682 tigers
  • Upper Limit: 3,925 tigers
  • Annual Growth Rate: 6.1%
  • India Holds: Over 70% of the world’s wild tiger population

Number of Tiger Reserves

  • 1973 (Project Tiger launch): 9 tiger reserves
  • 2023: 54 tiger reserves (after Veerangana Durgavati Reserve was added)
  • 2025: 58 tiger reserves
  • Total Area under Tiger Reserves: Over 78,000 sq. km
  • Percentage of India’s Geographical Area: 2.30%

Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CA|TS) Accreditation

  • Newly accredited reserves (2023): Kali, Melghat, Navegaon-Nagzira, Pilibhit, Periyar
  • Total CA|TS-accredited tiger reserves in India: 23

International Cooperation

  • International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA):
    • Launched: 2023 by PM Narendra Modi
