Air Quality in India: 48% of 240 Cities Recorded 'Better' Air

  • According to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on 21 July 2026, air quality was classified as 'Better' in 48% (115 out of 240) monitored cities.
  • Air quality was recorded as 'Satisfactory' in 105 cities.
  • Fatehabad (Haryana) was the most polluted city, recording an AQI of 176.
  • PM10 particles were the dominant pollutant in Fatehabad, where pollution levels were nearly 290% higher than the WHO's safe limit.
  • Aizawl was the cleanest city in the country, with an AQI of just 14.
  • In the national capital Delhi, AQI improved significantly from 127 to 69.
