India's Health Journey: Progress, Commitment and the Road Ahead

  • According to NSO and NFHS-6, the institutional delivery rate has become nearly universal (96.2%), while the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has declined to 87.
  • Full immunization coverage among children aged 12–23 months has increased to 87.1%, while Rotavirus vaccine coverage has reached 85.4%.
  • The Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has declined to 24 per 1,000 live births, and the prevalence of stunting among children under five has fallen from 35.5% to 29.3%.
  • While communicable diseases have declined, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases have nearly tripled, with 30.7% of women and 27.3% of men classified as obese.
