Strengthening Rural Credit for Inclusive Growth in India
As per NABARD's Rural Economic Conditions and Sentiments Survey (July 2026), formal credit access has expanded, accompanied by a rise in rural household consumption.

- India’s rural credit system provides short, medium and long-term finance for agriculture, allied activities, rural enterprises, household consumption, income generation, asset creation and livelihood security.
Institutional Architecture of Rural Credit in India
- Strong Institutional Network: Rural credit is provided through Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs), Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), Cooperative Banks, Small Finance Banks, and NABARD.
- Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs): Expanded rural branches from 41,464 (2014) to 56,193 (July 2025), supported by PMJDY, DBT, ....
