Law Commission Recommends Creating Epidemic Plan
On 12th February, 2024, the 22nd Law Commission of India submitted its Report No. 286 titled “A Comprehensive Review of the Epidemic Diseases Act (EDA), 1897" to the Union Government.
- The report underscores the inadequacy of the century-old EDA to address contemporary issues related to the spread of infectious diseases, particularly in the context of globalization and increased connectivity.
- The law as it was originally enacted was not devised to meet the complex and manifold contingencies that are prevalent in contemporary society.”
