Concerns over Delimitation Exercise
On 26th February 2025, the Union Home Minister assured that no parliamentary constituencies in southern states will be reduced as a result of the proposed delimitation exercise in response to concerns raised by the South Indian States.
What are the Concerns of Southern States Regarding Delimitation?
- Losing Representation: If delimitation is based solely on population, the Southern states' representation in the Lok Sabha could shrink to just 19%, while the share of Hindi-speaking states may increase to about 60%.
