Rare Crocodile Catfish
- A fisherman in Guwahati’s Basistha area caught a rare crocodile catfish (Bagarius suchus) in the Bahini River, raising ecological concerns.
- The species, native to the Mekong and Chao Phraya River basins in Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand, is not commonly found in India’s waterways.
- This predatory fish, which can grow up to 70 cm (28 inches), feeds on smaller fish and larvae, potentially threatening the local aquatic ecosystem.
