Herath Poshte
On 14th February 2026, the Prime Minister greeted Herath Poshte, the sacred festival reflecting the rich traditions of Kashmiri Pandit community.
- Herath Poshte is a traditional greeting for the Herath festival, which is the Kashmiri Pandits' celebration of Mahashivratri.
- Unlike typical Shivratri, it involves elaborate Tantric rituals (Vatuk Puja) and the offering of walnuts, which are later distributed as Prasad.
- Known for a tradition called Salam, which highlights communal harmony, and a unique tradition of consuming non-vegetarian food.
- Primarily celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir, with major gatherings at temples like the Shankaracharya Temple, Srinagar.
