Udant Martand

Hindi Journalism Day is observed annually on 30 May every year to commemorate the launch of Udant Martand, India's first Hindi newspaper.

  • It was first published on May 30, 1826.
  • It was published from Calcutta under the editorship of Pandit Jugal Kishore Shukla.
  • It was printed in Devanagari script and written in a mixture of Khari Boli and Braj Bhasha so that Hindi speakers from different regions could understand it.
  • The newspaper published local news, social commentary, and articles of general interest.
  • It aimed to inform Hindi-speaking people and connect them with important discussions taking place in the country.
