Pulses are grown in all three seasons: kharif, rabi, and summer. Those grown during Kharif include pigeonpea, green gram, black gram, and minor pulses (moth bean, rajmash, horse gram, etc.).

- Production: India is world’s largest pulse cultivator.
- Share: Contributes 38%of global cultivated area of pulse and 28% of global output.
- India’s Average Pulse Yield: India’s average pulse yield is 0.740t/ha; which is below the global average of 0.969t/ha.
- Ethiopia has the highest pulse yield in the world (1.894t/ha).
- Pigeonpea Production: India contributes 80.36% of the world's pigeonpea area and 78.10% of its production.
